About Me

I am taken aback by the inherent meaning and power of photos. They convey more than the viewer is conscious of receiving. Often photos replace memories - becoming the sole standing testament to a moment in time - whether that be an event, or a decade. They can incite desire, compassion, love, and awareness. When I’m shooting I’m in the zone, feeling very much a conduit and trying to get out of the way of what beauty and messages are coming through to form. My passion is capturing the beauty of things as they are.

I can’t help myself from taking pictures and it’s been that way since I was little. A weeklong summer class at 14 and subsequent years of printing after high school at rental darkroom in Santa Monica were my education, so I’m not entirely self-taught. I got my BA and MA in Geography (Sustainable Development and Cartography/UC Berkeley and University at Albany) so that I could get a ‘real job’ that could finance my photography habit. A little over 20 years ago, with the encouragement of friends and family, I came to my senses and realized photography is my real job. I feel terribly lucky to love doing something so much.

Other things I’m devoted to include ice cream, wild nature, hip hop, meditation, and yoga.
